Intricacies of a Cornflower

Cornflowers are small, intricate, beautifully colored flowers whose flower head averages 1.5 inches in diameter. I decided to photograph these flowers during one of my hummingbird sessions. Hummingbirds were coming back to the deck every 10-15 minutes, so when they would leave I would get up and take the flower images.

Each flower is intricate in its design and intensely colored. When viewed at magnification, you find small insects living amongst its pedals. This particular flower holds a small Phoridea fly and what looks like a crab spider within its universe.
