The Peace Before the Storm
On the last October Sunday of 2023, the weather was unseasonably warm which made it ideal for attempting a lakefront sunrise image. The sky was showing promise with pink hues starting to grow in the mid-level clouds as I arrived at the north end of Crystal Lake. A few minutes later the sky was awash with magenta highlights that soon started migrating to the south end of the lake leaving behind gray-blue clouds and a bright highlight where the sun was going to rise. Within minutes the once pink clouds were turning a yellow/amber color which I found much more interesting.
The image at right shows the same scene with the magenta coloration at its peak. Shortly after this image was taken, the magenta started migrating to the far end of the lake
and then gave way to the amber/yellow clouds seen above.
This high dynamic range image was taken on the morning of October 29, 2023 from the north end of Crystal Lake in New Hampshire. It is comprised on five bracketed images, +/- 1 stop each, which were merge in Adobe Lightroom. In its native size, it is 25” x 14” at 300ppi.
Prints are available in sizes ranging from 14” x 8” to 49” x 28” on Premium Luster, Metallic Gloss or Metallic Luster. Fine Art Archival images are available on Hot Press or UltraSmooth Matte stock. All prints made on Epson printers using pigmented inks.
