Sunrise Fog on Sanborn Pond

This mid-October shot was taken on the first really cold morning of the cold weather season. A heavy frost was on the ground, fog was rising off the water and off the roof tops of nearby buildings as the sun’s ray hit each surface. I remember thinking I should have worn my boots as the cold sank into and through my shoes.

This location has been the subject of many of my shots over the years. Unfortunately it is now posted with no trespassing signs. It is unclear if after years of being open it is a fear of litigation or the result of too many people with cameras, so more careless than others. I have noticed a lot of iconic photo locations getting posted with “Private Property” or “No Trespassing” signs in recent years. Some I can understand because of inherent dangers. Other, safe locations have to be the result of either too many visitors disturbing the area or careless behavior. We have a responsibility to be thankful and thoughtful when visiting the remaining open locations. Leave no trace when you take home an image.
